Membership to The Brave Girl's Club

Parker joined The Brave Girl's Club on 3.26.2013... She happened to turn 9 months old too, but I will save her 9 month info for another post.  After 5 ear infections, too many sleepless nights to count and lots of ear tugging Parker received ear tubes yesterday morning.

We were referred to an excellent ENT in early March when her last ear infection did not clear up and we went on a second round of antibiotics.  We had one office visit and heard what we expected to hear...

"There are two criteria to put tubes in a baby or child...

  • 5 or more ear infections in a 12 month period
  • Fluid build up behind the ear drum causing sounds to be muffled
Unfortunately, Parker has both..."

The news was not shocking, it was more the sense of urgency to get our sweet girl feeling "normal."

After hearing the pro's, con's and what the procedure would be like (and later doing some Mom research and investigation), we agreed that this was the way to go for Parker's best interest and we scheduled the procedure, which she had yesterday.

P had a great time wowing the nurses in the Surgical Center with her motor boat, growling, waving and so big skills.  We got to the center about 6:00 am, we met with the ENT and anesthesiologist about 6:45 and then the OR Nurse brought in a cuddly blanket, Parker went to her with ease about 6:55 and was carried off to the procedure room.... at about 7:09 Dr. Cellmer's came out to say everything went as it was suppose to and what to expect for the next day or so and about 45 seconds later the  anesthesiologist carried her back to where we were waiting just as he would his own child.  Parker was still sleeping but waking up about then and was pretty hungry...They checked her vitals, we fed her and by 7:30 we were on our way home.

Parker slept quite a bit yesterday and played hard too.  She was back to giving her gummy smiles, contagious belly laughs and demands on what books to read by afternoon.

She was so brave and did great.  Here's hoping the tubes do the trick!

Post-procedure snooze...Trusty Pedro stayed with her most of the time...

Brave Parker is SO BIG!  Later in the day, she was ready to play and read books!
